Choosing the Right Home Theater Equipment

A home theater system is a crowning jewel for most households. It’s basically putting a cinema-grade entertainment center in your living room. Moreover, with today’s TV and audio technology, the experience becomes more immersive.

Nevertheless, installing an optimum system for your home is a daunting task. As the endeavor will cost a lot of money, getting it right in the first place is paramount. You don’t want a television too big or speakers that you can’t figure out.

One thing you must consider is space. Knowing how much room you have will greatly help you in choosing the perfect equipment of your home theater system.

1. Television

It’s not about what you can see; it’s what size your space can accommodate. Today’s lows to mid-models produce stunningly detailed results and the high-end 3D or LED TVs have Internet-powered features. Remember that your choice will also determine your viewing distance.

2. Home Theater Receiver

Don’t be easily swept by the amount of features. If you’ve set a budget for your receiver, stick to it. In addition, keep in mind what you already have to make the most of your choice. If you have Apple devices, look for receivers that support AirPlay. Make sure to pay for what you will use.

3. Speakers

There are two primary things to consider here: placement and speaker capability. When it comes to capability, choose the one that’s right for your home. If you don’t have to worry about wall-to-wall neighbors, then that’s good. But, if you live in an apartment, it’s better to go for a mid-bass choice. Now, the right placement can vastly improve the sound quality. Your left, right and rear speakers should b reach your ear without disruption.

4. Video Sources

This is the easy part. If you have an HDTV, then you’re going to want a high-def video source. Blu-Ray players provide the most vivid pictures and some other features. If you’re a proud owner of DVDs, then an HD DVD player is perfect.

5. Cables and Remotes

You only need to know where the cables go. Most probably, you’ll have to interconnect your home theater system with HDMI cords. Check the manual so you won’t be blindly sticking its mouth in other ports. In addition, cords should be hidden and not dangling. Rubber bands or plastic cuffs will help restraining excess cords.
